How To Treat Scabies Effectively And Efficiently

I know an ultrasound technician graduating from one of the best ultrasound technician schools and he has scabies problem. He has spent a significant part of his ultrasound technician salary to try to get rid of these scabies. However, it seems not so easy to do it effectively and efficiently. Scabies treatment is complicated by the fact that a person can be infected and not show any symptoms for the first two to six weeks. But that only applies to first-time infestations in an individual. So with treatment of this condition, you have to consider the people around you. This would include people that are family, close friends, and anyone that you are physical with whatsoever.

This does not necessarily mean that you have to have sexual intercourse with these people to spread the mites. What is necessary, however, is close personal skin to skin contact for an extended period of time. If multiple people are involved with the scabies infestation, treatments must be done simultaneously to prevent further spreading.

There are two topical treatments, Ivermectin and Permethrin that have been very successful for the mass treatment of scabies. If one member of a family is getting treatments for scabies, it is strongly recommended by doctors, that everyone in the household gets treated. Just because there are no symptoms doesn't mean that the treatments shouldn't be given. If a condition can be passed around, then it must be stopped to keep it from recurring. You might not have any of the symptoms of scabies, but still have them in your body. Crusted scabies doesn't always occur, and that is the only time external antiseptics need to be applied, even though mites can live for a while outside the body. If you find yourself with scabies and have a lot of itchiness, OTC antihistamines will work for that, but you will need a prescription medicine to deal with the scabies. One of the best products for itchiness, is the oral antihistamine, Benadryl. If you are concerned with the use of antihistamines causing a problem with the correct diagnosis of scabies, or the interference in the treatment, you don't need to be. When children have scabies, before they can safely return to school, it will take one to three days of treatment. The doctor can give you some advice for what to do for your child's itching. Do not give your child an over the counter antihistamine without first consulting your doctor or the child's pediatrician.

Many people in the United States will be prescribed Elimite which is another name for the topical cream permethrin. In regard to toxicity, Elimite is the lesser of two evils regarding the treatment of scabies topically. Infants, even as young as a few months old, that get scabies may safely be treated with permethrin.

Prescribing lindane for the treatment of scabies is not without some amount of controversy. The use of Lindane is a remedy for scabies is only possible for certain people. This can only be used by those that are over 110 pounds, that are healthy, and that are fairly young in age. If you get to the point where you think you might have scabies, you should consult your physician so that you can get some operative medication, in case they make a positive diagnosis. Then, inside your home, you need to give it your all and disinfect all of your personal things.
